Yoga is not just about the asana. It's a method to get to know the self. It's a way to live your life and prioritize your health.
Intrinsically motivated learner determined to teach with moral clarity, research with humble curiosity, and share with intellectual honesty; a disciplined teacher invested in the pursuit of knowledge through building and fostering relationships with students.
Above all, I am a student. I approach all of my teaching practices with that in mind. Currently I'm a RYT 200hr Yoga Instructor and elementary educator. My background is as a classroom teacher of young children. With time, I learned that teaching adults is fun too.
During the week I spend my time with 5th graders teaching literacy. I get to begin and end my week with adults, teaching yoga.
I believe we are all capable of learning something. It is through self-study that we can live meaningful, healthy, and full lives.
Through my teaching practice I share wisdom about the breath and body my former teachers have given me. I create meaningful sequences to guide students on an inward journey of the self.
I discovered through a Yoga practice that daily movement is integral to health and is not necessarily found on "the mat." Yoga encompasses more than just the asana. It is a practice that reveals the mysteries of the Self.
My teaching style is the encapsulation of all my previous teachers and influencers. All that I know is because someone showed me the path first. I teach students to use the breath as the support system for movement. Class focuses on a vinyasa-style approach while I encourage students to recognize their strength, build stamina, and know their mind. I teach students to pay attention to the present moment and what is arising on any given day.
My sequence-building begins on the mat in self-study. I start with breathwork and stillness. Once grounded to the present moment I allow the body to guide the movements and use the breath as support.
Weekly I engage in learning as a student. I study with the teachers in my community and weave their findings into my own practice.
After engaging in personal and student practice I share my learning in a teaching practice.
